Quite the Central New Jersey find. Eric’s is one of the area’s best kept secrets. Main Street Freehold is rapidly becoming a hot-spot for great restaurants, but Eric’s is located just one block away from Main Street. This gives it the great advantage of being a little less crowded and a little less well-known, although the food is every bit as great as what you would find on Main Street, and I think even a little bit better. You can almost always get immediate seating during the week, but reservations are highly recommended on Friday or Saturday nights. The restaurant never has a crowded feel and your dinner never feels rushed. The staff is friendly and very efficient. Service is excellent whether the restaurant is busy or slow.
You might think it’s not much to look at from the outside, as the restaurant is located in a run-down looking strip mall. However the inside is beautiful. It has a casual atmosphere but the decor is on par with a fine dining establishment. The bar is fully stocked and serves some of the best martinis around. The martini prices may look a bit high for Freehold at $9, but you actually get two drinks out of one order because they leave the shaker with you. Food prices range from $15-25 for an entree. Reasonable, considering you get a decent size portion and all entrees include choice of soup or salad.
Overall: excellent food, excellent drinks, reasonable prices. If you give it a try, you’ll find yourself going back again and again.
We are meeting friends for dinner in Freehold. your restaurant came up in a web search. we are coming from South Jersey. please give me directions to your restaurant from the NJ Turnpike. also friends are coming from north Jersey to your restaurant so would you give me directions from the NJ Turnpike for them they will be traveling south and i will be traveling north. what time do you open for dinner? are you closed during the week at all?
thanks Sharon
Sharon,
First off, I don’t own the restaurant, I was only reviewing it. Secondly, Eric’s closed because the owner, Eric, decided he wanted a smaller establishment. He ended up selling the business and his liquor license. A new restaurant is open in the same place but I am unsure of the name and its quality.
If you are looking for good restaurants in Freehold, check out Metropolitan Cafe, Oyako Tso, or Paci. You’ll find these all to be similar price ranges with excellently prepared food.
Metropolitan Cafe - New wave, fusion, cocktails
Oyako Tso - Extremely fresh sushi, hibachi, BYO

Paci - Upscale Italian, BYO
I would like to have Eric’s last name or have him get in touch with me at my e-mail address above. I gave gifts to his restaurant and now the people cannot use them because he is closed. I would like to know if and when he will open another restaurant. Please, please, I need an answer. Sincerely, Len Telesco
I don’t have his last name unfortunately. What I would suggest doing is to send your letter to the restaurant address and hope the mail gets forwarded to him. It has been less than six months since his store closed so he may still have forwarding set up. Your other option would be to contact the Freehold Chamber of Commerce with your request. Perhaps they have forwarding information for him.
I hope this helps. Best of luck.
I came across. Thank you.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the post,
